Back in December I blogged about a cool indie band called The Commuters.  Today, they finally released their full-length album entitled Rescue.  And for a limited time - check this out! - it's available for free download through the band's website.

Here's an interesting alternative, indie rock band from New York.  The bandmembers are:

Zeeshan Zaidi – Canadian-born, Philippines-raised frontman who also plays guitar, piano, keyboards, songwriter, co-producer
Uri Djemal – who was also raised in the Philippines (by parents of Israeli and American descent)– plays guitar, keyboards, and is also co-producer
Ben Zwerin – who plays bass
Paul Amorese – who plays drums

Angels and Airwaves - Free Music

Most of you rock fans probably already know that after Blink 182's break in 2005, Tom DeLonge (lead vocalist and guitarist) founded a new band called Angels and Airwaves.  This band is still recording and touring to this day.  In fact, AVA (as Angels and Airwaves is called for short), have released three studio albums We Don't Need to Whisper (2006), I-Empire (2007) and Love (2010).

Tom DeLonge just posted a video blog on the band's MySpace page about a very special film simply titled LOVE that they will be releasing on Valentine's Day 2011. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have been working for months on a soundtrack for David Fincher's The Social Network. Five full-length sample tracks are available for free download right now if you sign up on the Social Network's invitational site.

The tracks on the sampler pack include:

Twilight Dad Sings!

Did you know that Billy Burke (who plays Charlie Swan - Bella's father - in the Twilight Saga movies) recorded a music album?  The album is still in pre-release stage right now (scheduled for release in June 2010), but one of the unmastered songs is being made available as a free download through The Billy Burke website.

I downloaded my copy already but rather than post it here, I thought I'd help spread the word about Billy Burke's great new website and let my readers get their own copy directly from the site themselves.  It's free with no strings attached!  And there's tons of fan material you can enjoy on his website.

In case you didn't know, Billy Burke originally made his way to Los Angeles as a musician, hoping to make it big in the music industry. Instead, he had better luck finding in roles in movies such as the Zucker Brothers' genre spoof JANE AUSTEN'S MAFIA.  He landed many other minor roles in movies and television, including a well-remembered role as an abusive father and husband named Gary Matheson in the hit TV series 24.  Years later, he was cast in LADDER 49 alongside John Travolta and Joaquin Phoenix.

St. Patrick's Day Fun and Music

One thing I love about St. Patrick's Day is all the drunk happy people - JUST KIDDING!!! Yeah, I know, the day usually brings to mind partying, wild green outfits, and maybe even green beer (if you're old enough to drink, that is). It's kind of like celebrating Mardi Gras in your own town, right? Except on St. Patrick's Day, usually we HAVE to wear something GREEN (if not, you'd get pinched, that's for sure!).

While St. Patrick's Day started off as a Christian holiday to honor Ireland's patron saints, the holiday festivities began to spread out into other countries and became perhaps one of the most celebrated annual events all around the world. I usually celebrate it by enjoying some good live music and having lots of fun. If weather permits, I try to take my children out to a local "Shamrock Festival" like the one year when we got to watch the popular Richmond band, Carbon Leaf, play for free at an outdoor stage. That was exciting! Even my kids had a blast at that show.

Speaking of free music, one of the bands I've written about more than once here has a new song available for a free download. Check out the Baltimore-based heavy metal band Rest Among Ruins, and their new demo "Phys" which they are looking to get some feedback on for an upcoming full-length album. The band's got a new bassist, too, in case you like to keep up with the latest on these East Coast heavy metal bands.

Seether's Careless Whisper Now On Video

Seether finally released a music video for "Careless Whisper," their remake of George Michael's popular tune from the 1980s. The video was premiered on Yahoo! Music today.

If you're expecting to see a live performance clip, or maybe some acting and a hot chick to grace your computer screen, you might be disappointed. I kinda sorta was in a way but I respect their choice. The band decided to go with some techno/digital art (does that sound better than saying "geeky"?) style. Check it out here.

Seether interview

I received a notification earlier today that the WalMart-sponsored website, SoundCheck Risers, posted an interview with Seether on their website. I checked out the site today. There are easy to find links for ordering Seether music online as either downloads or CD. One pleasant surprise is a link for a free download of Seether's Rise Above This, as well as downloads for a few other recording artists. Pretty cool if you don't already have that mp3! I didn't already have it so I downloaded it. It was pretty easy and quick to do.
