Time for a Tuesday Tune...

It's Top Sites Tuesday at Blogdumps and I thought I'd share two short thoughts...

I've been listening to some of my old CDs and wondering how some of my favorite old bands are doing these days.  Many of them (if they're still alive) do have some new music out...and they're still rocking it!!!  One of my favorite classic hair band days rockers, Def Leppard, shows us in this music video that they are an ageless band.



Another band I really liked (back in the day) was this supergroup Damn Yankees whose members included Tommy Shaw (of Styx), Jack Blades (of Night Ranger), Ted Nugent (I always think of NRA when I hear his name), and Michael Cartellone (of Lynyrd Skynyrd. 

The Latest Football Rap

This is cute...or hilarious...or just plain fun and entertaining to see the Manning brothers get dressed up like this and start rapping! Yeah, for real!!! It's really a commercial for DirectTV but whoever thought of it is probably getting a big raise for getting this much attention.

It looks like the video was just uploaded to DirectTV's YouTube channel on the 6th of August (that's yesterday as of this writing) and already it's got over 2 million views - and getting really close to 2.5 million. You don't have to like football to enjoy this...

18 and Life with Sebastian Bach

So first thought this Tuesday - I am soooooo excited about this new video premiere on Monday on UltimateClassicRock.com's website.  It's a concert version of Sebastian Bach performing his old Skid Row classic, 18 and Life.  I've been a big fan of Sebastian Bach ever since his days with Skid Row.  He's one of those singers that I don't think heavy metal and hard rock could ever be without.

Two Thoughts About 710 Oil

Back in 2008, I published a short post about one of my favorite local bands, 710 Oil.  I have to admit, lately, I've slacked in posting about them and other very talented local bands.  But I've been keeping up with them on their Facebook page and their band website.

My first thought this week is that it's pretty cool seeing how much national exposure 710 Oil's been getting lately.  See the pic above where they posed with KISS?  That's not just a Meet and Greet picture.  That's the real deal when they were selected to be one of the opening bands for a recent KISS concert in Hampton Roads, VA.

Two Thoughts - Madonna and her Music

When it comes to solo female musical performers, I've always counted Madonna as #1.  I think she is very versatile and talented as a musician, singer, and dancer.  I can't say the same about her acting although I did  find her 1987 movie Who's That Girl quite entertaining at the time. Who remembers that movie?

For this week's Two Thoughts on Tuesday at BlogDumps, I thought I'd share two thoughts about Madonna's latest music. (LiggyzDreamz, after all, started out as a blog about my music interests).

I hate myself for loving you

I really loved Madonna's performance at this past Superbowl's Halftime Show. She kept it professional and clean (too bad M.I.A. had to spoil it with her immature finger gesture).  But I'm not gonna talk about the Superbowl again tonight.  This time, I'm looking back at some of my other favorite female musical performers and thought I'd enjoy some Joan Jett.  "I hate myself for loving you" but I sure love Joan Jett, too!!!  :)

Christina Perri Does It Again

I love Christina Perri...and I love the fact that she was chosen to write a song for the Breaking Dawn Part 1 soundtrack. She is so talented and soulful. Her music can really touch you and grab your emotions. Remember her big hit "Jar of Hearts"? The song she wrote for Breaking Dawn is just as expressive and meaningful. Check it out here:

This Is Gonna Hurt music video

Have you seen it yet? There's a new video out for Sixx AM's "This is Gonna Hurt". Actually it's been out on their YouTube page since August 16th. (Sorry I'm kinda late in posting about it). But I really want you guys to check it out because this song really rocks and the video gives you a glimpse into the making of the book This Is Gonna Hurt: Music, Photography and Life Through the Distorted Lens of Nikki Sixx, a New York Times Best Seller. ARMS by Christina Perri

In case you didn't know, Christina Perri's new single, Arms, was released three days ago. In the singer's own words, "'Arms' is about the fight between your heart and your mind. Your heart wants to be loved but your head is always telling you reasons not to be with him or her, or how you are not worth the love. It's about the struggle and finally giving in when you're wrapped in their arms. Then you get it. Then you feel loved and love wins."

Who is Rebecca Black?

I guess you can say that today, I'm going to contribute to the viral popularity of a widely criticized music video.  I can't help it.   When I came across the Video Ga-ga post on Yahoo today, I got curious and watched the video...adding myself to the more than 3 million views this aspiring singer named Rebecca Black has had on this video, a dramatic jump from the less than 4000 views it had last Friday!

Can Jared Leto Get Any Hotter?

Thirty Seconds To Mars is gonna blow you away when the full-length version of the HURRICANE video comes out. A sneak peek has been released today and Jared Leto wasn't kidding when he said it was gonna be "very, very, very, very sexual". In this preview you can already tell Jared's got his critical praise-worthy film acting and directing skills in high gear. See for yourself here...

Did you hear what Jared Leto recently said about the next 30 Seconds To Mars music video?  He said it's gonna be "very, very, very, very sexual."  The video is going to be for the song "Hurricane" which is on their latest album "This Is War".

For those of you who are just now getting to know 30 Seconds To Mars, it may come as a surprise to you that Kanye West (yes, that Kanye who could not apologize enough for what he did to Taylor Swift) collaborated with the band on this song.  And mind you, it's not rap or r & b or soul...the song is a really creative and dramatic piece of musical art!  Just check out the lyrics and try to visualize the meaning of the song:

The End of Me and Gavin Rossdale

I can't believe I missed the premiere of Apocalyptica's first single from their new album 7th Symphony. The new tune is The End of Me which features the 40-ish yet still hot daddy (and ~ sigh! ~ happily married to Gwen Stefani) Gavin Rossdale.




In case you didn't know, Apocalyptica's new album is now available in stores.  You can also order a copy very easily thru Amazon and iTunes. Other fantastic guest vocalists on this album include Brent Smith of Shinedown and Lacey of Flyleaf.  If you were impressed with the Worlds Collide album, then you're gonna want to get 7th Symphony for your collection.  This new album is gonna rock your you know what off!!!

Thinking About The Oil Spill

It's Top Sites Tuesday at BlogDumps and this week's topic is the recent BP oil spill in the gulf. Surely I don't  need to repeat the same things here that you can read about from a reputable news source. But bloggers like me like to share our thoughts on the issues.

For the past two months, this leaking oil has been continuing to spew oil out into our waters and endangering our wildlife. What's worrisome is that the dangers don't just stop there.

When is this all going to end?  How much more of nature is going to have to suffer before BP gets the oil leak stopped and cleaned up?   It's quite frustrating to hear a lot of anger being vocalized about what's going on. And I agree, the anger is understandable.

But we can't get anything done by pointing fingers.  We all need to join hands and do what we can together to get this mess fixed.  While we all can't be there to physically help, there's a lot we can do to raise awareness of our environment.  We can do a lot to protect our environment (especially nature)  and eventually it'll extend to where help is most critical.

I normally try to keep my blog posts reserved for posts related to music and the arts so I thought I'd end this note with a beautiful song...an eye-opening reminder about protecting our environment  from one of the greatest musicians that ever lived. Thank you, Michael Jackson.

HEAVY BONES

Heavy Bones

Heavy Bones is a band that formed in the early 1990s.  The members included founders Joel Ellis (of Cats in Boots) and guitarist Gary Hoey. Rex Tennyson (of Hellion) played bass and Frankie Banali (of Quiet Riot) played drums.  I don't remember what made me want to purchase a CD in 1992 from this little-known band that really didn't gain enough of a following to be able to record a follow up CD, but their album is one I still enjoy listening to. 

The album simply titled with the band's name, is one of those glamor rock/sleaze rock music albums that you could play in the background while you sit around, drinking beer with your friends.  I mean it's not boring but it's not distracting either.  A majority of the songs in the album contain a lot of picking and soft strums on the steel guitar strings, making it sound more like a classic mellow rock album.  The percussions add to the rhythmic beats that remain pretty steady throughout most of the tracks so it's easy to follow along.  The singer's slightly raspy voice sounds like a cross between Motley Crue's Vince Neil and Tesla's Jeff Keith but with a more mellow emotional overtone.  

Here's a video of Heavy Bones performing "4 AM TM", perhaps the only song that they sang that got any attention at the time.  Despite their lack of popularity in the 1990s, the album is one I think is worth checking out and going back to.

Have I Seen Her Face Before?

I watched You Don't Mess With The Zohan yesterday and noticed how familiar Emmanuelle Chriqui (who starred opposite Adam Sandler) looked. She reminded me a lot of Nina Dobrev, who is popularly known as Elena in the TV series, The Vampire Diaries. 

Until I did a little research and learned that Emmanuelle is almost 10 years older than Nina, I didn't want to believe they are two different people.  Aside from their looks, both ladies are from Canada. Nina moved to Canada when she was two; Emmanuelle, on the other hand, was born in Montreal, Quebec.  Similarly, both actresses took acting classes and started working in the performing arts at a young age.

Perhaps what really surprised me the most is that Emmanuelle Chriqui appeared in a music video of my favorite Hinder song, "Lips of An Angel". Check it out for yourself in the video below.
