Two "Super" Thoughts on Tuesday

(Photo Credit: Srdjan Ilic - AP)

Okay, what's better than beer and chips during Superbowl Sunday?  Well...other than that!  It's a memorable Superbowl half-time show - that's what!   Even if you're not a huge football fan, you can still enjoy Superbowl whenever there's a great show to watch at half-time.  And that's something I always look forward to when my favorite team is not one of those contending for the championship.

On Monday, it was confirmed that my favorite solo female musical artist of all time - Madonna - will be performing at the 2012 Superbowl to be held at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.  She will be combining her act with the very unique and well-received Cirque du Soleil.  In case you're not familiar with Cirque du Soleil, they are a group of stage performers that dramatically blend street entertainment and circus art.  I'm sure this collaboration is going to make a half-time show as unforgettable as Michael Jackson's 1993 performance which was one of the most watched events in television history.

My second "super" thought for this Top Sites Tuesday meme is I think you all ought to check out Tori Amos's highly acclaimed new album "Night of Hunters".  She is releasing an instrumental version of the album and calling it "Sin Palabras" (which means literally translates to "without words").  Super!!!

While some of Tori's work seemed somewhat inconsistent in the past, this new album deserves a standing ovation in terms of performance quality.  Here you have a modern blend of themes from the last 400 years of classical music composition.  The sound is tranquil and melodramatic at the same time.  You have to check it out yourself to understand what I mean and to truly appreciate it.  I wouldn't recommend it if I didn't think it was worth it.

Hi Liggy,

I really enjoy full instrumental music, especially if it's well done. I can't wait to get a chance to hear Tori's new album. I think some of the best songs are totally instrumental - like Santana's Europa.

I really enjoy Madonna's music. I grew up in the 's and my aunts and babysitters idled her. The music, the clothes, the attitude, the hair, the jewelry. Madonna made such and impression on that time in my life. Then she came out again and reinvented herself as not only a musician but a respectable mother and business woman. She's really amazing.

I'm not familiar with Tori Amos... I'll have to check that one out.

Happy Tuesday,

I can honestly say I've never watched a Super Bowl halftime show and I probably won't start this year. Nothing against Madonna ... the performances always seem more about lights an effects than performance ... and the acoustic usually aren't very good. Time to get a few brews from the garage.
