Two Thoughts on Tuesday

First off, I got a late start to writing my Tuesday post for BlogDumps' Top Sites Tuesday meme.  Maybe because I get so involved in reading on my new Nook color that my hubby got me for my birthday/Mother's Day present.  (This year my birthday fell the day before Mother's Day).

I had the choice of getting the very popular Kindle Fire from Amazon but I have been checking out the different readers at the local electronics stores and really liked the Nook Color.  Sure, I'm aware that there are so many added features on the other readers/tablets, but I didn't want all that.  I'm not the kind of person that wants to have the small 7 inch display cluttered with a bunch of apps that I could already use on my laptop computer.  I just wanted something I could enjoy reading on (even at night, in the dark, in bed) or have a few other available activities to do when I'm on the go.  So the Nook fit my needs perfectly and I told my hubby that that's what I wanted...and I got it.  Whoot whoo!

My second thought today is about The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty novel which was written by Anne Rice under the pen name A.N. Roquelaure.  I have this on my new Nook and have been trying to finish reading this.  But I honestly don't know if I can finish it.  I mean, I love the way Anne Rice writes, especially with the Vampire Chronicles series she published.  But this one - oh my gosh! - is extremely shocking for me.  It is by no means anything you'd expect if you are a fan of the original fairy tale.  Don't let your kids get a hold of this book!!!  Seriously...it's not even romantic or close to what they can call erotica.  It's really a sick, twisted tale of mental, physical, and sexual abuse upon young royal captives.

I guess I should've done my research before I started reading it.  I think I'm gonna have to load up on some Dan Brown, Robin Cook, or John Grisham novels instead...these are other adult novel writers I like who don't write that kind of sickening material.  I just hope the people who read A.N. Roquelaure's Sleeping Beauty novels are sane enough to know where fiction ends and reality begins. So if you decide to read this book after I've warned you about it, I hope you are not expecting a dreamy adult version of the classic tale  because this one definitely is not that.

I hadn't heard of this book, but I have been an a tangent for nonfiction for quite awhile. I go in spurts.

The last nonfiction book I read was John Grishams "the Litigator" I love those easy reads.

As far as the Nook vs the Kindle, I think it's a toss up. Pros and cons to each of them. Really it is what you get used to.

Hi Liggy,

Well, I can guarantee you I won't read the book. And I'm starting to wonder if I was to get Trina one of these readers if I could get some of my shop back.. she could have her books in one compact space instead of 800 square feet of book shelves.

Hmm... the nook sounds nice, but I'm still a classic book reader. I like to flip pages and use a book mark... I'm sure I'll convert soon enough, but I'm trying my best not to :)

Now the book, I like freaky tales and am inclined to check it out just to see the twisted side of the tale.

CLicks for you!

Oh, Liggy. I was a big Anne Rice fan during her vampire days and once picked up The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty. That is one nasty book. I have been considering a tablet for while now and can't convince myself I'd actually use it. I was looking at the Nook today ... they are very nice. Enjoy.

Congrats on the new NOOK! Wow! I'm glad you got the e-reader that you wanted! I kinda also wanted a NOOK myself but went with the Kindle Fire instead. It works perfectly for me, so I've no complaints! Enjoy your e-reading! :)
