Celebrating Earth Day - April 22, 2009

Having a day designated for a specific event (such Earth Day, which is tomorrow, April 22nd) basically serves as a way to remind us about things we really should be mindful of on a daily basis. To me, every day is Earth Day...and it should be because everything we do in our daily lives affects what happens to our planet.

I remember how when I was a child in the 70s we used to ride our bicycles everywhere. There was very little pollution in the air caused by all the vehicle exhaust. These days it's not always practical to ride a bicycle everywhere, but it's not completely impossible either. Whenever we can, we should try to conserve the earth's resources such as fuel, trees, water, and more. A very good website to start at to learn more about conservation and recycling is EarthDay.Gov. It contains information categorized for home, school, work, and communities.

While I searched the Internet for some more information on what I can do to help celebrate Earth Day, I found these nice pictures. They'd be pretty cool to display and remind ourselves about protecting the planet we live in. They are also eye-catching enough for use in teaching the younger generation about Earth Day and Earth Week.

I remember riding my bike everywhere as a child. So did all my friends. Now that I think of it, I don't think there were very many overweight kids that I knew. Hmmm? Exercise? I know dangerous situations prevent kids from the freedom that I had, but there are lots of ways to stay green. My family and I have been trying to be more ECO friendly. One way is by using the Kindle for our newspapers, books, and magazines. I think I will challenge myself to add at least one more "green" way per month. I better get busy and learn more.

You know, I never thought of Kindle that way...you're right! It is ECO-friendly. (That reminds me, using email instead of paper mail is another eco-friendly means of communication).

Thanks for sharing your comment, Alice. I appreciate it. :)
