The Grinch Returns
Ha-ha! Actually no, there's not another remake (that I know of) of The Grinch but the season that the Grinch story is all about is back! So after a long day of raking (actually we used a blower but we have a really big yard and lots of trees so it took a tiring while) and putting together some stuff we got for the back yard, we decided to put on our old copy of Jim Carrey's version of Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

Two Thoughts for Tuesday
Time again to share my two thoughts for Tuesday. First off, I am so glad that the mums I got last year have come back and are even taller and thicker than before. I remember being a little worried when I first got them because I was not successful at growing them before. At the same time, I was uber-excited because I had never seen red mums in person before and I thought it was just awesome luck that I saw them at the Garden Center.

Two Thoughts for Tuesday
My first thought is - what a nice way to start the week! Today at work, UPS delivered the new Winnie The Pooh Blu-Ray/DVD movie combo that I won from GalTime.Com. I was really surprised because I didn't expect it to arrive so soon. Heck, I never even expected to win it in the first place.

Week-end Fun
So did everyone get to enjoy this past week-end? It was Mother's Day yesterday...where were you?
I was out having fun with my mother! Actually we spent the two days of the week-end going to a few different places. The most exciting place we went to was a bird show on Saturday. We (my mother, my sister, my daughter, and I) got to see some really beautiful exotic birds. There was even a competition going on in part of the convention center. There, we "talked" to some birds...and then their humans, too. LOL!
It was really fun! There were some raffle drawings going on for bird-related toys and books. We didn't win anything but we did manage to find a few good buys on crafts and bird food.
The experience made me recall the time I once owned a bird - a Quaker parrot to be exact. I didn't have him for very long because I didn't have any experience taking care of birds a the time. I ended up giving him up to a friend's friend who was a real bird aficionado. Before I gave "Pete" up, I did manage to teach him to say a few things like "Good boy, Rambo" and the familiar bird phrase "Pretty bird". (Rambo was my German Shepherd mix whom I loved and cared for for 13 years).
We spent Mother's Day together as well, having a nice late lunch at my house, then going out again to shop. Yes, you can't beat shopping with Mom! Hope you all had a nice Mother's Day week-end as well!

My Favorite Holiday Music
I love Christmas holidays and I especially love the music that you hear a lot more of during the season. (Yes, I really am a music-lover!) While many songs are religion-based (thereby stirring up controversy in today's society), there are also many that are non-denominational cheerful carols you sing to bring uplifting spirits to everyone around you. Who doesn't get their winter blues chased away after listening to timeless classics like "Jingle Bells" or "Frosty the Snowman?" What about the humorous classics "I'm Getting Nuttin' For Christmas?" and "All I Want For Christmas Are My Two Front Teeth"?
When you take a moment to really try and take away the stress of modern day-to-day living, take away the cynicism of non-conformists, and take away the negativity of those who simply can't stand to see others in celebration around them, you can feel the true meaning of "holiday spirit". Remember - that's the lesson that the Grinch learned after he tried to steal Christmas away from everyone in Whoville?

There's so much variety in holiday music today that a music lover like me can have a favorite in almost every genre. When it comes to children's holiday music, I really love the music from A Charlie Brown Christmas(TM). Perhaps those of you who enjoyed the cartoons of the 70s can remember the scene where Schroeder plays the piano and everyone is dancing happily around him. That was just so fun to watch - even as I grew up!
When it comes to religious holiday music, I really love "What Child Is This?" because it's so endearing and mellowing. I love it sung acapella and I love it even when it's played instrumentally. I can even play it on the piano!
Rock musicians have also created some pretty good holiday music or recorded timeless classics which they've adapted to their styles. My personal favorite holiday music from the rock music category would have to be the Band Aid tune "Do They Know It's Christmas?" which was recorded as part of a huge fundraising effort by the musicians involved. That song always gives me goosebumps, reminding me that there are less fortunate people out there that need help. We - the more fortunate ones - should never forget that because life could've been the other way around and we could be the ones needing help.
There's also a genre of music that has become very popular with the coming of the Trans Siberian Orchestra (TSO for short). It's called the rock opera. If you haven't already heard them, you really should. So I'm posting a YouTube video of TSO performing my favorite TSO tune called "Christmas Eve Sarajevo". The music totally rocks!
