Chris Cornell is back

Yeah, he's back...but not solo. This time Chris Cornell is back with Soundgarden. Thank goodness! I wasn't really fond of that solo album Chris Cornell put out a year and a half ago. SCREAM really wasn't my cup of tea. I prefer Chris Cornell with that grungy rock sound of Soundgarden.

If you love video games, then you're gonna really get down with Soundgarden. The band has teamed up with Guitar Hero for the release of their new album, TELEPHANTASM. Telephantasm, by the way, is more of a retrospective look back at Soundgarden.  It features a few unreleased tracks as well as their previously released smash hits (Outshined, Spoonman, Black Hole Sun, and more).  There is also a CD/DVD combo with 20 music videos you'll love even more.

By the way, here's a recently released  video preview for the game release:

Now, is that kick ass rock or what?! Welcome back, Soundgarden! Welcome back to that hot rockin' sexy Chris Cornell we loved in Soundgarden!

Halo Legends

I decided to join Netflix and give it a try with the 1 movie at a time offer (you can get more at a higher monthly fee).  There are a number of people I know who joined and are pretty happy with the service.  Besides, it seems like good fit for me - the convenience of picking out a movie online, waiting for it to arrive in the mail, having a postage-paid envelope to send it back in, and the ability to stream movies online as well. That sure beats having to wait in line or spend hours at the video stores looking for "just the right movie".  Besides that, with Netflix I don't have to worry about the movie being due back by certain time or day.  It's also a lot cheaper than paying for cable TV which just gives me hundreds of channels of nothing interesting to watch.

The first movie I got from Netflix was the HALO Legends movie.  I'm not a video gamer so I don't really know much about Halo but my son does and I thought it might be cool to watch something he gets into.  (Am I a cool mom or what?!)

The movie contains seven stories about the history of HALO.  What I thought was interesting about the way this was made was that the stories were presented in different animation styles.  Check this out:

One story was presented in a more traditional Japanese anime style. (I don't know if there are any special terms used to describe it).  I just describe it as the kind where the people have small noses and large eyes.

Another story looked like a more common American cartoon style.  You know, just like the techniques used in American favorites like Scooby Doo or the SuperFriends.

This kind of water-color style animation that was used in one of the chapters was new to me.  I thought it was artistic, although my kids weren't too impressed by its visuals.  Story-wise, that part of the movie was a very dramatic chapter.

Another style of animation used reminded me of the Final Fantasy series.  This style used more realistic looking depictions of people.  Makes you feel like you're not watching a cartoon at all sometimes.  And they always seem to make the females look so hot!

Overall, the Halo Legends movie was pretty good. It gave my kids and I an understanding of the origins of Halo and a more in-depth feel for the characters from their background history.  I'll admit, the movie wasn't exciting enough to make me want to become a Halo gamer but it did bring about an enjoyable two hours with my kids who normally wouldn't sit still for that long for other movies I want to watch.

Two Tuesday Thoughts

Time Flies
I just can't believe how quickly this month has gone by! It seemed like only recently we were celebrating New Year's and talking about resolutions. Amazing how time flies!

I have to admit that I've been slacking lately on LiggyzDreamz...could it be because I've joined the ranks of many addicted Mafia Wars gamers? I swore that I'd quit once I reached level 100...but then as I got more requests to join their mafia, started seeing what kind of jobs I could accomplish with them, and what I could do with all the virtual money in the game, I couldn't stop. LOL!

Mafia Wars
I remember reading an article about Mafia Wars addiction in a November issue of Time Magazine. I must admit that I think the author got it right when he said: The constant stream of rewards is addictive; you become like a rat who can't stop pushing the lever to get the little pellets. Your resources constantly regenerate, and the game is always giving you random items that you don't even know how you earned.

Anyway, I do take myself off the game every once in awhile and catch some TV time with my "real family." During one of those couch-potato nights, I caught the funniest commercial I have ever seen. Or perhaps, you could just say the one I've enjoyed the most in a very long time. It was available online so I posted it here for you all to enjoy, too.

Now tell me that didn't make you laugh as well...

My Immortal

I found a render of an MMORPG character, basically a goddess named Shaiya. I think she's really beautiful. I even put her up on my blogger banner in case you haven't noticed.

Anyway, I used photoshop to put together this image which I decorated with lyrics to Evanescence's hit song "My Immortal". I thought the lyrics went well with the image. I just wanted to share it here with my readers. (Note: If you want to be able to read the lyrics, just click on the picture and a larger image will open in your Internet browser window).

Evanescence is one of my favorite major bands. I was able to see them perform at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Virginia last year. Amy Lee is an amazing performer. She has the most beautiful singing voice and her stage presence is simply tops! I love her...haha, so does my husband. She is awesome!!!
